I’m 24 years old girl, , from Finland and I’m writing to you in means to tell you a little bit about me, my studies, expectations and reasons concerning practical training in Brazil in next autumn.
I’m studying in degree programme of Crafts and Recreation in HAMK University of Applied Sciences. My main subject, therapeutic recreation, aims at seeking client’s strengths and maintaining or rehabilitating client’s functioning capacity. Action encourages to social intercourse, elevating dignity and rehabilitating motor functions and psychosocial health. It also promotes clients other treatments and rehabilitations.
As I previously wrote, I want to learn and research new aspects of life, people and procedures. That’s one reason why I’ve always dreamed to do voluntary work somewhere abroad. I’m fascinated of cultures and languages. I also dream that I could travel a lot around the world during my career. From the first semester in HAMK we, Niina and I, decided to accomplish our practical training abroad. We found Brazil more and more interesting when we discussed with the boy from our grade who accomplished his training in Brazil, Fortaleza. When my main subject started, I met Gracieli Weber and she was kind enough to give us information and helped us. Then we decided to head towards Brazil. We have started studying Portuguese and hoping that we’d educate our skills in your Portuguese language- course.
I’d really like to explore Brazilian culture, history and lifestyle. Your country’s arts, crafts and therapeutic recreation interests me very much, maybe we’d visit in Feevale’s Artetherapy- lesson. Difference between Finnish and Brazilian ways of doing for example facilitating, fascinates me and it would be very instructive to be part of team and learn new things, considering various professions in working group. I have also a goal to absorb your know-how and to share mine. For long dreamed voluntary work will be new experience and challenge, and even more if we get to conceive and facilitate recreational activities to children and youth.
Still I want to tell you that we have planned to do our Bachelor’s thesis concerning about differences between Finland and Brazil as to our professional field.
