This course is designed to give students the essential background necessary to coordinate the creative and business ends of the industry. Students have an opportunity to learn how to determine trends, monitor the economy, visit the marketplace, price a garment and put a line together, as well as the operation of a retail store . Given the importance of the textile industry in Italy, much emphasis will be placed on textiles, fibers, yarns. Emphasis will be placed on the analysis of wholesale, retail, advertising, promotion, merchandising, and apparel-management practices of the fashion marketing industry in Italy in particular.
Prerequisites: none Planning, developing, and presenting product lines for identified target markets with regard to pricing, assortment, styling, and timing as well as theory, principles, and practice of apparel merchandising and buying will be part of the course. Field trips to Prato and to Milan form part of this course.
